The Saskatchewan Rattlers are thrilled to announce a partnership with Road Coffee. The partnership resulted in the creation of the Rattlers Full Court Press, a delicious blend of Brazilian and Peruvian coffees, to be launched on June 23rd, 2021 and made available for purchase for a limited time on Road Coffee’s website, roadcoffeeco.com.
Road Coffee, a local Saskatoon company, provides a great-tasting coffee and focuses on creating positive change in the coffee industry. The company introduced the
BeyondFair
program to assist coffee farmers across the world as they attempt to lift themselves out of poverty. The
BeyondFair
program was created by Road Coffee founder and CEO Alisha Esmail.
BeyondFair was created as Alisha noticed an issue in the coffee industry's current standard of Fair/ Direct Trade models.
"The coffee industry's dirty little secret is that coffee farmers get paid a low profit. Seeing that people drink coffee in every country every day, it seems crazy that farmers are still living in poverty. So, I decided to come home to Saskatoon and do something about it." says Alisha.
In addition to seeing a low return of profit, coffee farmers across the world face a whirlwind of challenges. One of these challenges is receiving loans to buy and repair the equipment needed to farm. Farmers may face rates up to 70% interest rates to purchase the equipment. Road Coffee's BeyondFair
program aims to correct this issue and give farmers access to required materials.
"Our microloans are a major part of our program. We offer loans at 7%. The loans help farmers purchase whatever they need to grow their business and provide for their families."
Road Coffee has helped 11 farmers and their families over the past 18 months through microloans. The company is now aiming to help its next group, consisting of 25 farmers and their families. There is no end in sight for Alisha and her goals to help farmers out of poverty through the creation of the
BeyondFair
program and Road Coffee.
The partnership between the Saskatchewan Rattlers and Road Coffee is an ideal match. Both organizations look for opportunities to support local businesses and believe in the power of the province of Saskatchewan.
"I've said it for years, and I'll keep saying it. I believe that Saskatchewan has the power to impact the world and have an international reach. You see that with companies such as Nutrien. So why not build other industries like that as well."
Alisha continues,
"I'm excited to partner locally with the Saskatchewan Rattlers because people from Saskatchewan understand hard work, not only that, but they are innovative and creative just as much as bigger cities such as New York or Los Angeles."
Saskatchewan Rattlers Vice President Brad Kraft mirrors Alisha's excitement in the partnership as he states,
"We love that we have the opportunity to team up with a local business in unique ways. We’re excited to be a part of the
BeyondFair program that gives back to coffee farmers around the world. Partnering with Road Coffee is huge for our organization.”
The Rattlers Full Court Press made by Road Coffee will be made available on June 23rd. The blend features both Brazil and Peru coffee. The blend shows up to play with notes of chocolate, almond butter, black forest cake, and a perfectly sweet finish. Whether you're hitting the court or sipping in the stands, this blend is a slam dunk. The blend will be available for purchase at roadcoffeeco.com.
