Saskatchewan Rattlers Announce Major Roster Moves
The Rattlers are looking to revamp their lineup heading into the latter part of the inaugural CEBL season
SASKATOON, July 22, 2019 - The Saskatchewan Rattlers, member club of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL), today announced several key roster moves in anticipation of the inaugural CEBL Championship Weekend.
The Rattlers will have some new faces when they next take the court on Thursday in Fraser Valley as several new key members have been added to the roster. With the Rattlers hosting Championship Weekend, it was imperative to bring in some more veteran players that could help the team make a push for the inaugural CEBL Championship. Joining the team are Maurice Jones (USA) and Shaq Keith (CAN), with more signings planned to be announced prior to the July 25th game against the Fraser Valley Bandits.
Maurice Jones (27) is an American point guard who last played with the Sudbury Five of the National Basketball League of Canada. The 5 ft 7 in Saginaw, Michigan guard broke the NBLCo steals record in his rookie season in 2017 and was named the Rookie of the Year.
Shaquille Keith (26) is a Toronto-born forward who most recently played for the Hamilton Honey Badgers. The 6 ft 5 in Canadian, put up 16 points in 3 games for the Honey Badgers as well as 5 assists.
The Rattlers have also announced that Ali Haidar, Tavrion Dawson and Gentrey Thomas have officially been released by the club. The aforementioned players will be joining teams overseas for the upcoming fall season.
“Heading into the final quarter of our season, it was imperative that we load up on talent ahead of Championship Weekend”. said Rattlers President and COO Lee Genier. “We are committed to having a winning program and plenty of momentum heading into August 24th and 25th as the host team of Championship Weekend. These major roster moves are another step to making us more competitive in the inaugural CEBL season and ensuring we have a winning product as we close out the season.”
The new look Rattlers are back in action this Thursday in Fraser Valley and Saturday in Hamilton as they take on the Bandits and the Honey Badgers respectively. The Rattlers will be back at home on August 2nd when they take on the visiting Fraser Valley Bandits. About the Canadian Elite Basketball League Modeled after top international professional leagues, the CEBL is comprised of six original teams in Hamilton, Edmonton, Guelph, St. Catharines, Abbotsford, and Saskatoon. Each team plays 10 home and 10 road games using FIBA (International Basketball Federation) rules, and player and referee standards set by Canada Basketball. Rosters are comprised of at least 70 percent Canadian players, many playing professionally in North America and overseas during the traditional basketball season. Playing out of the SaskTel Centre, the Rattlers will play ten home games from May to August of 2019. The CEBL is the First Division Professional League partner of Canada Basketball.
