Rattlers Announce 2022 U SPORTS DRAFT Selections
The Saskatchewan Rattlers held 4th overall pick, and the 7th pick in the second round
Saskatoon, Sask. - The Saskatchewan Rattlers of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) have announced Tuesday their selections in the 2022 CEBL U SPORTS Draft. The Rattlers selected Anthony Tsegakele of Brandon University with the fourth overall pick in the draft. With the seventh pick in the second round, the Rattlers added Saskatchewan local Benjamin Hillis.
Tsegakele returns to the CEBL after his sophomore year with Brandon University. Prior to his collegiate debut, the Gatineau, QC native competed at Thetford Academy – the alma mater of current Toronto Raptor, Chris Boucher. He has led in rebounds per game for Brandon University, was second overall in Canada West and third in national rankings. Tsegakele has averaged 17.7 points, 11.9 rebounds, 1.7 assist, and 32.9 minutes in 36 University games. He was named on the U SPORTS All-Rookie Team, won Canada West Rookie of the Year and was named to the Canada West All-Rookie Team in 2019-2. In 2021-22 the 6-6 forward was named to the Canada West All-Star Third Team and won the Jerry Hemmings Award as Brandon Men’s Basketball Most Valuable Player honours, his second in two years. Tsegakele registered a career-high 33 points on March 3, 19 rebounds on January 15, and six steals on February 20 this past season. Tsegakele was drafted as a U SPORTS developmental player by the Fraser Valley Bandits in the 2021 CEBL season.

I expect Anthony will compete immediately for a spot on the roster.”
Benjamin Hillis joins the Rattlers after his final year with the University of Regina. Prior to his University debut the Regina, SK native competed with Dr. Martin LeBoldus Highschool where they won provincial and city championships in both grade 11 and grade 12. Hillis is a five-time Academic All-Canadian, five-time recipient of Dean’s List Academic honours, Canada West Student-Athlete Community Service Award (2021-22), has won U SPORTS Ken Shields Award for Men’s Basketball Community Service (2021-22), was named to the Canada West All-Star First Team (2021-22), and is second all-time in total assists (361). Hillis completes his collegiate career averaging 8.0 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 25.6 minutes in 104 collegiate games. Hillis will be an asset on the Rattlers on the backcourt while being a strong leader in the community.

Ben comes from a family with a rich basketball heritage and will strive to be an outstanding ambassador for the Rattlers franchise.”
