Rattlers welcome 2021 CEBL Champion to the team
The versatile forward brings depth to the 2022 Rattlers

Saskatoon, Sask. - The Saskatchewan Rattlers of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) have announced Friday that they have signed forward Kemel Archer for the 2022 CEBL season. Archer played three years with Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks, winning Men’s Basketball Most Valuable Player in his final year (2020). He played with three professional teams averaging 9.5 points, 8.6 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 20.0 minutes in 50 professional games. He played on the 2021 Edmonton Stingers roster which won the 2021 CEBL Championship.
He started his collegiate career with Canadore College Panthers in the OCAA (2016-17) averaging 10.2 points, 9.4 rebounds (team high) in 20 games. He recorded double digit rebounds in 12 games including a season-high 17 boards on January 29th, 2017. Kemel transferred to Wilfrid Laurier University in 2017-18 averaging 9.1 points, and 6.0 rebounds in 23 games in his first season with the team. In 2018-19 with Wilfrid Laurier, he scored 15 points in his season debut against Carleton (November 2nd 2018). During this season, he averaged 11 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 19.8 minutes in 22 games. In his senior year (2019-20) he averaged a 12 point 10 rebound double-double in 22 games. He recorded a career-high 24 points against University of Guelph (November 20th 2019) and double digit rebounds 15 times including 15 total rebounds in two separate occasions. Finishing his final year with 220 total rebounds (7th in all U SPORTS), 10 double-doubles, and Archer was named Wilfrid Laurier University Men’s Basketball Most Valuable Player.
Starting his professional career, Archer signed a contract with CDE Becedo Santander of Liga EBA in Spain in 2020-21 playing 15 games averaging 15 points, and 12.2 rebounds per game. He earned 6 Player of the Game Awards during this season, including one for a 21 point, 17 rebound performance on January 30th, 2021. He grabbed a season-high 24 rebounds which was a league high on the season. His breakout year was recognized with 2021 Forward of the Year (eurobasket.com) and named 2021 All-Spanish EBA 1st Team. Archer began his CEBL career with the Edmonton Stingers (2021) averaging 2.4 points and 3.2 rebounds in 9 games. The Edmonton Stingers won 13 games with 1 loss, winning the CEBL Championship in the playoffs. Archer is currently playing with Solent Kestrels of NBL D1 in the United Kingdom averaging 8.6 points, 8.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 17.9 minutes over 26 games.
