The Saskatchewan Rattlers of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced Friday that their Starblanket Jersey is now available for purchase with proceeds supporting Residential School Survivors through the Saskatoon Survivors Circle.
“The Starblanket jersey design pays homage to Indigenous people across Saskatchewan. For some, the Star Blanket is used to honour, celebrate, and protect an individual who it is gifted to” said Tristen Amyotte “As an Indigenous person myself, for as long as I can remember, our family grew up with Star Blankets in our household. It was usually gifted to us after a significant event, and I always felt comfort in having a Star Blanket.”

The indigenous-inspired jersey debuted on June 25, 2023 for the Rattlers Kisiskâciwan Day at SaskTel Centre. Kisiskâciwan Day featured involvement from the Indigenous community; including the Treaty Song prior to National Anthem, Medallion Ceremony prior to tip-off, Powwow Dancers, Walking Buffalo singers, a Wanuskewin activation, and more. The event also featured appearances from Tribal Chief Mark Arcand, Residential School Survivor and Sports Hall of Fame Inductee Eugene Arcand, and members of the Saskatoon Survivors Circle.
The Rattlers won their first game in their new kit, then celebrated with Residential School Survivors and members of the Saskatoon Survivors Circle with a post-game photo. The Rattlers continued the winning spirit with two more wins and a 1-point loss in the black uniform.

“From the moment we launched these jerseys we knew they would be popular with our fans” said Rattler Vice President Brad Kraft “We are excited to make them available for purchase and raffle, while giving back to the community in a meaningful way.”
The Rattlers Starblanket Jerseys are now available online and at the Rattlers Store (2-183 2nd Avenue South, Saskatoon, SK). There are only 30 jerseys available for direct purchase, and 1 team-signed jersey that is available via purchase of raffle tickets. Jerseys are available while supplies last, and the raffle for the Team-Signed Jersey will end on Monday October 30th 2023.
“The Rattlers organization is doing their part in reconciliation by celebrating Indigenous culture, while ensuring that the proceeds go towards a good cause,” said Tristen Amyotte.

The jersey was designed by Tristen Amyotte with consultation from Christine Marie (Awasis Boutique) and Chief Mark Arcand (Saskatoon Tribal Council). The design pays homage to the Starblanket Ceremonies that were held by the Saskatchewan Rattlers in collaboration with the Saskatoon Tribal Circle. The jersey features Cree syllabics translating to ‘snake’, Every Child Matters across the back neck, and the Rattlers traditional ‘Wheat’ and ‘Green’ colouring throughout the black jersey.
“I hope youth and elders who see this jersey can feel a sense of pride.” said Tristen Amyotte “I wish my late Grandpa, a Residential School Survivor, an artist and basketball enthusiast, could have seen this project come to life.”
